An Ethanol Outlook for 2008

The beginning of a new year traditionally animates to take stock of the outgoing year and to reflect on chances and challenges the coming year might bring. This is also true for the European bioethanol fuel industry turning the page of a turbulent year 2007: After a head start in form of the encouraging decision of the European Spring Council to introduce a 10% obligation for biofuel use, high hopes have been slightly dampened by soaring raw material prices that put much pressure on this young industry and even forced some players to temporarily halt their production. This is particular sour in a time that the crude oil price almost reached US*$ 100 bbl.

So what will the year 2008 bring for our industry? Let’s have a look at the most pressing issues.

European Bioethanol Fuel Association
What we do
Founded in 2005, eBIO serves as the voice of the European bioethanol fuel industry, providing advocacy, authoritative analysis and important industry data to its members, the European Institutions, strategic partners, the media and other opinion leaders.

Our objectives:
  • Promote European policies and initiatives that lead to the increased production and use of bioethanol fuel.
  • Participate in educational activities to increase public awareness regarding renewable fuels and the positive contribution they make to European energy independence, climate change and the economy.
  • Provide eBIO members with the knowledge necessary for informed business decisions.

  • Members
    eBIO members are a broad cross-section of businesses dedicated to the expansion of the European bioethanol fuel industry.

    eBIO has two classes of membership:
  • Producing Members: those companies with production plants in operation.
  • Associate Members are made up of other companies already committed to European bioethanol fuel, including investment companies, feedstock producers, plant constructors and technology providers.

  • Leadership
    eBIO is governed by a Board of Directors comprised of senior officers and members. The Board meets several times a year to set Association policy.
