U.S. chemical maker DuPont Co (DD.N: Quote, Profile, Research) and Genencor, a unit of Denmark's Danisco (DCO.CO: Quote, Profile, Research), on Wednesday said they plan to form DuPont Danisco Cellulosic Ethanol LLC, a 50-50 joint venture to develop and commercialize low-cost technology for producing cellulosic ethanol.

Chicago Board of Trade corn futures ended lower Tuesday as improved U.S. weather forecasts left the market without bullish news, traders and analysts said. Despite the drop, corn did rally late to finish 12-14 cents higher than session lows, bouncing back after dipping below its 20-day moving averages. An analyst attributed the late rally to supportive rallies in crude oil and soybeans.

US: Corn planting at 51%, compared to 77% five year average

The United States Department of Agriculture reports that as of Sunday, May 11, 51% of the U.S. corn crop was planted. That’s compared to 27% a week ago, 71% a year ago and 77% for the five year average. Prior to the report, analysts were generally anticipating planting to be from 40% to 60% complete.

The largest biorefinery in the European Union should be up and running in the first half of next year, consuming a substantial chunk of Britain's exportable wheat surplus, the head of UK biofuels firm Ensus said.
